Our Structure

**Building Our Foundation**

Self-Built Legacy Foundations is currently in the early stages of building a robust and sustainable framework to empower the Black community. Our vision is to create lasting change through economic development, access to essential resources, community-led initiatives, and the cultivation of independent power for systemic transformation.

To achieve this ambitious mission, we are establishing a model that includes:

* **A C: Our Engine for Impact:** 

Currently, our primary operational entity is A C, a for-profit company dedicated to generating resources that will fuel the future work of Self-Built Legacy Foundations. Initially, this will involve sales of our high-impact merchandise and direct contributions from early supporters. Please note that as a for-profit entity in this initial phase, contributions to A C are not currently tax-deductible.

* **Self-Built Legacy Foundations: Our Future Non-Profit Hub:** 

Our long-term goal is to establish Self-Built Legacy Foundations as a tax-exempt non-profit organization. This foundation will be the central hub for managing our mission-driven programs, distributing resources, and overseeing our community impact initiatives. We are actively working towards the formal establishment of this foundation.

**Our Vision for Governance:**

To ensure strong leadership and alignment with our mission, we envision a structure with separate but interconnected boards:

* **Board of Governors (Self-Built Legacy Foundations):** 

This board will provide strategic guidance and oversee the mission and finances of the non-profit. It will comprise community leaders, experts, and passionate advocates dedicated to our cause. The founder will serve as a key member and likely the chair.

* **Board of Directors (A C):** 

This board will govern the for-profit company, focusing on its business operations and profitability in service of the non-profit. It will include key members from the Self-Built Legacy Foundations' Board of Governors to ensure mission alignment and facilitate the transfer of profits to the foundation.

**The Flow of Funds:**

As we grow, we envision a structure where A C will operate as a key supporter of Self-Built Legacy Foundations. A portion of the profits generated by A C's business activities will be systematically transferred to the foundation to fund its charitable programs and initiatives.
